Love between our brother and sister human beings is an expected by-product of a society that treats each other excellently. ‘Brotherly love’ means seeking the very best for others, to voluntarily serve our fellow human beings.
“A man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?” Robert Browning
Why stop at peace? What about love for all humanity; excellence in all our relationships?
To love your neighbor as yourself is promoted by Christianity, Judaism, Stoicism, and many other religious and philosophical traditions. It is the essence of the Golden Rule.
This emanates from a sincere gratefulness for that person’s existence.
Love is the highest expression of wanting to optimise the well-being of another person.
The 3L Movement could have been a love movement, but we didn’t want to bite off more than we could chew 😉.
In the words of Marc J. Victor
“Is it so hard to envision a world inhabited by people, all destined to die someday, who all share a similar genetic code, who each are living together only for a short time, who depend on each other to survive, who all share one planet, who all enjoy similar pleasures and share similar fears, who all desire others to socialize with, could share a common brotherly love for each other regardless of physical differences and other preferences? I don’t see why this is hard to envision. It should be the natural state of affairs.
We should entirely discard all harmful forms of tribalism immediately and view ourselves as one people, one family, all citizens of the planet Earth.”
Why stop at humans?
Can’t we also expand our circle of natural love to all living things? Our planet? The greater universe? There is no benefit to limiting our love.
