Stewardship is a way of relating to one’s property. In many ways, being a ‘steward’ is a superior framing of legal ‘ownership’, as it reflects two truths:
- Good property ownership requires responsibility; disciplined up-keep and value-creating improvement.
- We are but custodians of our property. We are all mortal; our bodies will die and our possessions will be inherited. Our control is finite and we would do well to think beyond our own lifetime, towards future generations.
