Definition of ‘person’
- A person is a living human being.
When do the legal rights of a ‘person’ apply?
- Animals are not included in the definition of personhood. Affording the right not to be aggressed against to an animal is something that people can do on their private property, and make voluntary agreements with other individuals to do the same.
- The point from conception at which rights afforded to a person apply to an unborn child, a relevant question for the issue of abortion, is a grey area that local communities must decide.
Legal rights of a person
- The 3L Philosophy starts from the premise that each of us owns ourselves; the opposite of slavery.
- Your body is therefore your property. When you use your body to peacefully acquire things, these things become an extension of your property, so assault, murder, rape etc. are property rights breaches.
- The Legal Principle is based on this premise of self ownership and it protects all people equally.
