Overview
- Stewardship is a way of relating to one’s property. In many ways, being a ‘steward’ is a superior framing of legal ‘ownership’, as it reflects two truths:
- Good property ownership requires responsibility, disciplined upkeep, and value-creating improvement. Examples include eating healthily, getting enough rest, and serving others.
- We are all mortal; our bodies will die, and our possessions will be inherited. While we do legally own our possessions, from a metaphorical perspective, we are but custodians of our property. Our control is finite, and we would do well to think beyond our own lifetime, toward future generations.
Environmental Stewardship
- We can reverse our current patterns and instead revive the vitality of ecosystems.
- For example:
- Regenerative agriculture offsets emissions from burning fossil fuels while improving resiliency and producing more nutrient-dense foods.
- Precision technologies and robotics can reduce the need for chemicals and intensive labor in agriculture.
- Drones can actively detect and extinguish wildfires before they spread.
