- All human interactions can broadly be defined as ‘voluntary’ or ‘involuntary’.
- The 3LP legally permits all voluntary interactions between competent adults while seeking to outlaw involuntary interactions
- The difference can be as stark as heaven and hell:
Voluntarily helping others
- By removing coercive social safety nets, we must rely on voluntary ones. This does not mean everyone will be generous. Just as today, people will choose to hoard more than they need and be selfish. But many will be generous. The freer and more prosperous people are, generally, the more generous they become.
- We should discourage selfishness by using our freedom to bring social consequences against bad behavior and inspire voluntary kindness. There are many creative ways society can use social consequences to encourage moral excellence.
- By coercively appropriating people’s property, we deny them any chance of being voluntarily generous.
- The government is incredibly wasteful with taxpayers’ money. Voluntary giving is often much more direct and efficient.
- Many of us within the 3L Movement voluntarily donate 10% of our income to charity, in addition to the taxes we are forced to pay.
