Summary
- Live the message. Demonstrate:
- Civility - listen; take an interest, validate (don’t judge) and build trust. Exercise patient in face of rudeness.
- Tolerance - assume the best intentions. Many have never heard of these ideas.
- Open mindedness - find common ground.
- Voluntary kindness - emphasise the vision of one human family.
- Aim for agreement on the Principles, not the facts. “Do you mind being aggressed against?”
- Share the positive vision: The 3L Movement is about a love of freedom and friendship. “Are you the kind of person that stands up for what’s right?”
- Emphasise the value of the community: “Would you want to be part of a global community that helps each other and represents the best of humanity from all walks of life? Do you want to belong among those that stand together in moral courage for a vision of enjoying shared freedom and peace?”
- Emphasise hope and agency: “world peace is a long journey that starts with a single - we’ve made the practical steps to get involved easy”. This is something to live for!
- Repetition is key - almost no-one ‘gets it’ on first listen.
- Exclude personal opinions/preferences - 3L is a wide tent. No need to put others off unnecessarily.
- Remember: roughly 1/3 of people will simply disagree, 1/3 won’t care, and 1/3 will be receptive. 3L is about enjoying our gift of freedom while respecting the free will of others - maintain tranquility!
Assuming the best intentions
- Most people have never considered that we live in a world that legally permits aggression. Most people want a better world for all and genuinely believe that some degree of coercion is a necessary evil to get us there. They have not yet considered that this coercion is the root of the problem.
- We should assume that those we communicate with are good, kind-hearted/loving people. The following sayings summarise the error in aggressing to achieve their worthy goals:
- If indeed the path to hell is paved with naive good intentions, the path to peace is paved with two practical principles of the 3L Philosophy.
These ideas are new to most people
- It is understandable to reject the Legal Principle without being fully informed of its meaning or having had a full opportunity to contemplate it. There are many essential points most people have likely never heard before.
- The solution to every doubt is to ask:
- “What do you think would happen next?”…
- “What do you think would happen next?”…
- “What do you think would happen next?”…
- Eventually, a peaceful alternative solution is found existing coercive way of ‘solving’ the problem.
